Dr. Xia Cheng, the Executive Director of the Canadian Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine (CITCM), earned her Bachelor’s Degree in TCM and Western Medicine in 1983 from the Hunan University of TCM. In 1984, she pursued further study at Tianjin University of TCM, culminating in 1987 with a Master’s Degree in Medicine and Acupuncture.
In 1990, she received her Ph.D in Medicine from the Chengdu University of TCM, with a specialty in Acupuncture and Chronomedicine; her major research area is in digestive disorders. After completion of eleven years of university study from three different universities in China, she worked as a chief physician at the Beijing Hospital of TCM and as a professor for the Beijing Union University TCM College for six years. Dr. Cheng has over 32 years of clinical experience as a physician, herbalist and acupuncturist. She has been a professor at several colleges and universities as well as instructing foreign students in China. She has translated several publications and is a published author of several TCM works. She is currently the Executive Director of the Canadian Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the BodyMind Synergy Health Centre in Calgary, Alberta. Dr. Cheng is an active participant in the professional development of acupuncture in Alberta, Canada. She currently serves as a council member for the College and Association of Acupuncturists of Alberta (CAAA) which is the governing body for acupuncturists in Alberta. She is actively involved in acupuncture and TCM education and regulations in Canada, and serves as the Vice President for the Federation of TCM and Acupuncture Schools of Canada. Additionally, she teaches TCM to medical professionals and offers public education workshops on acupuncture and TCM benefits for public on general health and wellness. She is the Founder of the “WE” Western and Eastern Integrated Philosophy, which is the guiding principle in the various program curricula offered at CITCM; the belief that Western medical knowledge and practices, blended with Eastern healing wisdom and well-being, offer the best health. Dr. Cheng encourages all people to feel essential, follow their path and enrich their life via Western and Eastern Integrated Philosophy and reaches the state of health, happiness, and harmony. |
