Most people suffering from peripheral neuropathy (PN) and their healthcare providers don’t know that dozens of research studies have shown acupuncture to be effective in treating PN. As the diabetic epidemic grows, the number of cases of PN is growing.  In the U.S., 50% of diabetics over 65 years of age develop diabetic PN.  Learn more about the research that has found how successful ​acupuncture can be in treating diabetic PN. 
Chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is often called a "dose limiting" side effect of chemotherapy drugs because the symptoms can get severe enough that the chemotherapy dose needs to be reduced. ​Research Breakthroughs

​Several research studies have found that acupuncture improves the nerve damage in PN. These findings have been confirmed by nerve conduction testing before and after acupuncture. PN nerve damage has long been considered irreversible. Acupuncture’s ability to improve nerve functioning is a breakthrough in PN management!

​Expanding Medicare coverage

The Acupuncture Now Foundation is working to get the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to approve coverage for acupuncture in treating peripheral neuropathy (PN) - a process called a National Coverage Determination (NCD). We submitted a document explaining the research on acupuncture for PN along with copies of 72 research studies. This document offers the most comprehensive review of the research on acupuncture for PN and is available here for anyone interested in doing a deep dive investigating that research.
