Diabetic PN
According to the CDC’s latest National Diabetes Statistics Report, nearly 30% (16.5 million) of Americans over 65 years of age have diabetes. Further estimates indicate that 50% of diabetics aged 65 and over suffer from diabetic-induced peripheral neuropathy (DIPN), which primarily affects the sensory nerves in the hands, feet, and lower legs.
Dozens of random controlled trials (RCTs) and systematic reviews have found that acupuncture is effective in easing the pain, numbness and other symptoms involved in those suffering from PN including diabetic PN. A link to a comprehensive list of those studies can be found at the bottom of this page in our submission to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
