Board of Advisors
Stephen Janz BN BAc MPH
Registered Acupuncturist

Stephen has been involved in the health sector in various roles since 1981. Originally a registered nurse in a large public hospital he established a private practice in 1988 following his degree in Acupuncture. Stephen served as National President of the Australian Acupuncture Association Ltd (now the Australian Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Association) until 1996. During that time he successfully negotiated the introduction of acupuncture rebates with Australia’s largest privately owned health insurer.

Following his term as President Stephen chaired the National Academic Standards Committee for Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine (NASC) which developed national curriculum guidelines for Acupuncture & Chinese medicine courses in Australia. In 1999 he led the project which successfully lobbied for the removal of the goods & services tax (GST) from acupuncture putting it on a level playing field with the established health professions. As part of his Master of Public Health degree he investigated acupuncture education standards in Australia as well as the issue of dry needling AJACM 2011 Volume 6 Issue 1  AJACM 2011 Volume 6 Issue 2 .

Stephen was appointed to the inaugural Chinese Medicine Board of Australia 2011-2014 where he served as the Chair of the Policy Committee and oversaw the development of national acupuncture infection prevention and control guidelines. Stephen continues as the clinic director of a multidisciplinary natural health clinic in Brisbane, Australia.
