Johanna Biemans

Board of Advisors
Johanna Biemans is active as a clinical epidemiologist in Traditional Chinese Medicine as well as the medical acupuncture field. She received her Master of Science degree at the University of Amsterdam. Her dedication to move the field scientifically forward expresses itself in her role in the research committees from the Dutch Association of Acupuncture and the ETCMA (European Traditional Chinese Medicine Association). She is originally trained as a physiotherapist and acupuncturist and still works in her clinic in The Netherlands to stay in touch with the profession. Her focus is on the broader view of understanding human health and the way insights from TCM fit in. She has a combined Bachelor in Psychology and Philosophy.

Although she admires the beauty and richness of the tradition, her approach is innovative in the sense that she is particularly fond of exposing the specific actions from acupuncture and TCM. And therefore contribute to healthcare in general. In one of her projects which she started in 2014, needling concepts, she explores the specific actions of the core craft of acupuncture that is the use of an acupuncture needle with therapeutic aim. She saw that many of the techniques are taken over by other professions and became disciplines in itself. In her believe this knowledge should stick to the original profession to enrich and grow.
